A Comprehensive Student Guide to Note-Taking on The iPad Pro

Hey there, Congratulations on taking the first step into bettering your learning which is to actively try and improve! No one starts off at the top.

Let's dive into this weeks post. This video is fairly simple. I used to take a lot of notes on paper in a coiled notebook with all my coloured pens and felt like it was extremely productive for me to do so. In reality, this isn't the case. Doing well in classes doesn't come down to who has more colours and who has more highlighters on their page. Doing well is based on actively listening to the lecturer whether that's your University professor, high school teacher or any other professional.

I transitioned from using Paper into using my iPad Pro (any tablet works) as my daily driver and I can honestly say it has made me way more productive. I understand that the iPad is very expensive and so at the end of this blog you'll find how to purchase the iPad for a cheaper price. Here's a summary of what I discuss in the video:

1. Taking Notes for Practice-Based Classes

- Write down eveything you can in class

- Make sure to do the examples in Class

- Do the examples after class based off of your memory

- Fill in the gaps for what you don't know

- Review

2. Taking Notes for Memorization Based-Classes

- Actively listen

- Write Everything you think is important and nothing that is not important

- Review (THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP): I labelled this as the most important because without reviewing, you WILL NOT DO WELL! I personally make my own flashcards using a flashcard system called Anki, however, Quizlet and regular flashcards are useful as well. Not only do them but do them consistently. You can also write things down based on general concepts you create (e.g. taking a biology course, you can write down telomeres and then write all you know about telomeres and then see if you included everything)

3. Buying an iPad

Check out this site for purchasing an iPad for cheaper (refurbished products). Refurbished products are the products you receive when you trade your phone in for apple care. They chnage the battery and screen and so it's a new device but they can't label them as new as that would be illegal. My friends and I have taken advantage of this to the MAC

- Refurbished site (usually 15% off) : https://www.apple.com/ca/shop/refurbished

- Student site (usually 5-10% off): https://www.apple.com/ca_edu_93120/shop

- Regular apple site: https://www.apple.com/ca/
